• Participants must be aged 12+ to participate in this activity

• Children aged 12+ will be charged the same rate as adults

• Minimum Age: The minimum age for PADI Open Water Diver certification is 10 years. The operator generally recommends participants be a minimum of age 12 to ensure they have the maturity and confidence to get the most from the course

• Advanced fitness level is recommended to participate in this activity

Course prerequisite

• Medical questionnaire showing no major health concerns
• Swimming ability: To earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification, you must be able to swim 200 m continuously and comfortably complete the required water skills assessment

Course schedule:

• Before your course: Complete your PADI eLearning theory before arrival. The theory component is shorter than the Open Water Diver course and typically takes 2–4 hours to complete. All theory must be completed prior to the practical session
• At Jetty Dive: Spend approximately one hour at the dive center learning how to analyze Nitrox gas mixes and understand the importance of Maximum Operating Depth (MOD)
• Optional additional diving day: Put your new certification into practice with two Nitrox dives at the Solitary Islands Marine Park. The day begins at the dive center at 07:30 and concludes at approximately 13:30 after returning to log your dives

Reminders

• It is recommended that a medical statement is done before you start using your PADI e-learning. Please refer to this document here
• It is recommended to bring travel sickness medication for guests who may experience sea-sickness during this course, as the operator cannot provide any medication (The operator recommended to not use ginger as a form of medication)
• Once access to the PADI eLearning component has been issued, it is non-refundable under any circumstances, including if a participant does not meet the medical requirements for diving
• If a participant fails to attend any part of the course without prior arrangement or notice (including cancellations and no-shows), additional fees may apply to reschedule or complete the missed component. Please refer to Section 29 of the Terms and Conditions for full details
• Ocean dives are subject to weather and sea conditions and may be cancelled if conditions are deemed unsuitable or unsafe. All decisions regarding dive operations are made by Jetty Dive Centre staff, with safety being the primary consideration
• If a participant chooses not to attend due to weather conditions when Jetty Dive Centre is operating the course as scheduled, this will be treated as a participant cancellation and standard cancellation terms will apply
• Participants travelling to Coffs Harbour should be aware that suitable weather and sea conditions cannot be guaranteed, and course schedules may need to be adjusted accordingly
• Photography availability depends on who is onboard on the day. Please contact the operator closer to your dive date for the latest information
• Sun burn and seasickness are both avoidable with over-the-counter preventatives. The most common injuries caused by marine life are scrapes and strings, which mostly can be avoided by wearing gloves and an exposure suit, staying off the bottom and watching you hands and feet placement
• Medical requirements: Most people can learn to scuba dive; however, certain medical conditions may require further assessment. If you answer "Yes" to any question on the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire, you may need medical clearance from a diving physician before participating
• Ear pressure & equalization: This sensation is typically caused by pressure changes and is managed through a technique called equalization, which your instructor will teach during the course. Most people learn this skill quickly and comfortably
• Claustrophobia & diving: Many people are surprised by how relaxed and freeing scuba diving feels. Training is conducted at a comfortable pace, and Jetty Dive's small class sizes allow instructors to provide personalized support to help you build confidence throughout the course
• Running out of air: Running out of air is highly unlikely when proper dive procedures are followed. Divers are trained to monitor their air supply and maintain a safe reserve. As part of your training, you will also learn emergency air-sharing procedures with your dive buddy

Diving depths

• The dive sites vary from 5 m-28 m, which al sit safely within the nitrox maximum operating depth with a 32% nitrox blend
• Dive depths are determined by site conditions, certification level, and diver experience. While recreational diving limits are up to 40 m for qualified divers, most dives at the Solitary Islands are conducted between 16–18 m, where visibility, marine life, and water temperatures are often at their best

Information about the Nitrox Enriched Air

• Nitrox won't make your air last longer, but it can increase your no-decompression limits, shorten surface intervals, and provide more flexibility for repetitive diving. By reducing nitrogen absorption compared to air, Nitrox offers an additional margin of conservatism for many recreational dives
• Please note that wetsuits, masks, snorkels, and fins are only available for use when diving with the operator on their boats and cannot be rented separately (Proof of certification is required for equipment rental)

Accessibility

• The boat has a back entry gate with a small downward step from the floating whar onto the boat (The estimated distance of the downward step would be 20-30 cm depending on the tide)
• Please inform the operator if any assistance is needed in entering and existing the boat

License Required

• A PADI Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver Certificate is required to participate in this activity
