Its vermilion shrine buildings are solemn and ancient, adjacent to Nachi Falls, making it an important pilgrimage site on the Kumano Kodo. Seiganto-ji Temple, the Three-story Pagoda, and Nachi Falls are all located together on Mount Nachi. Important stamp collection points include Nachi Taisha, Seiganto-ji Temple, and Hiro Shrine.

Located in Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture, it is one of the three Kumano Sanzan shrines and a World Heritage site. Its vermilion shrine buildings overlook the Kumano River, and it enshrines a married couple deity. The thousand-year-old Podocarpus tree within its grounds is a natural monument.

Hosshinmon-oji is the most classic and essential section of the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi route, approximately 7.6 kilometers long, and is known as "the most anticipated pilgrimage route."

The ancient wooden shrine buildings are solemn, and nearby Oyu-no-hara has Japan's largest torii gate.

Additional information

• This tour involves a considerable amount of walking and stairs. Please make sure you are fit enough to participate

• For safety purposes, it is not recommended for women more than 1 months pregnant, children aged 0-5, and anyone that has inconvenience in legs and feet to participate in this activity

• Visitors who have completed the Santiago Pilgrimage Route must bring their hiking certificate. Upon arrival at Kumano Hongu Taisha, you can apply for a dual pilgrimage certification. Rules: Complete one of the four Kumano Kodo routes and collect the required stamps. Recommended essential route: Hike 7 kilometers from Fushimi-oji to Kumano Hongu Taisha, then visit Kumano Hayatama Taisha and Kumano Nachi Taisha. According to new regulations in March 2025, a total of 10 stamps must be collected for the entire journey.
