A Brief History of the Museum
Opened in January 2009 after three years of meticulous construction, the Panorama 1453 History Museum is located in Istanbul's Topkapi district. It attracts over a million visitors each year, eager to see the expansive mural that vividly portrays the Battle of the Conquest of Constantinople. The mural, wrapping around the museum walls, covers an impressive 2,350 square meters with a diameter of 38 meters.
Exploring the Museum
Spanning 3,000 square meters, the museum is one of Turkey's most significant historical sites, spread across three floors.
Upper Dome Floor
The centerpiece of the museum, the upper dome floor, offers a 360-degree depiction of the battle. Enhanced by dramatic sound effects, visitors are transported to the battlefield, hearing the thunder of gunfire, the beat of war drums, soldiers' shouts, and the neighing of horses. The display includes authentic weapons and tools used in the battle, such as the giant cannon instrumental in the city's conquest.
Basement Floor
For a comprehensive understanding of the battle, the basement floor features television screens providing detailed explanations in various languages.
Second Floor
This floor presents a detailed model of the panoramic dome, along with an array of pictures, paintings, and maps depicting the battle.
Third Floor (Display Dome)
The main attraction, the display dome, surrounds visitors with a hemispherical, 360-degree view of the battle. Utilizing 3D display technology, the dome's walls are painted with lifelike images of Sultan Mehmet Fatih, his soldiers, horses, and cannons. The immersive experience is further enhanced with a sound system replicating the real sounds of the battle, including bomb blasts and horse hooves.
