Additional information
- Regarding vehicles: Tibet's overall reception capacity is relatively limited, and the formal tourist vehicles are relatively old. The vehicle conditions are not comparable to those in mainland cities. Tibet has a high altitude, and most tourist vehicles do not have air conditioning or do not use air conditioning (using air conditioning can easily cause the vehicle to move slowly, and the internal heat and external cold can also easily cause a cold). The Tibet region has interval speed limits for road travel (for example, XX kilometers of travel time must not be less than 2 hours), so the vehicles will randomly select stopping locations to get off the vehicle to rest and wait. Please be aware of this.
- Regarding group tours: Individual travelers will be picked up from different hotels before departure, which may involve waiting for other travelers. Please be mindful of the time. Transportation will be arranged according to the number of people. If travelers voluntarily abandon the tour, the transportation fee will not be refunded. Luggage specifications: The travel agency reserves the right to adjust the itinerary and order of visits based on the actual situation, while ensuring that all attractions included in the itinerary are visited.
- Regarding Luggage: Due to Tibet's high altitude, excessive luggage can reduce the power and maneuverability of tour vehicles and affect passenger comfort. Each person is limited to one 26-inch suitcase and one carry-on backpack. The tour guide will notify guests in advance to store excess luggage at the hotel front desk in Lhasa.
- Regarding the hotel: If single men or women appear in the group, the travel agency has the right to arrange triple rooms or shared rooms according to the actual situation, or the tourist can make up the single room supplement for individual travelers joining a group. The hotels are fixed hotels arranged by the travel agency, and designated hotels or self-arranged hotels cannot be accepted. Thank you for your understanding.
- Regarding meals: Main meals are at your own expense. If you choose to forgo a meal for personal reasons, the meal fee will not be refunded. If you are not accustomed to Tibetan cuisine, you may bring your own food. During the trip, the tour guide reserves the right to change dinner to lunch depending on the situation, but the total number of complimentary meals will remain the same.
- Regarding tour guides: This is a shared tour for individual travelers. The travel agency will arrange a tour guide in the corresponding language based on the actual situation. If there are both native Chinese and native English-speaking tourists in the same vehicle, we will arrange bilingual Chinese and English tour guide services. Please understand that, as this is a shared tour for individual travelers, there may be changes to the tour guide and vehicle.
- Regarding tickets: Includes first-entry tickets to all attractions listed in the itinerary, guaranteeing a full tour. In the event of unforeseen circumstances preventing a visit, alternative attractions will be arranged in consultation with the visitor. Travel costs during the off-season are calculated based on annual winter ticket discounts. No ticket fees or price differences will be refunded. In the event of sudden changes in discount policies, no additional price differences will be charged. Tickets for the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple require real-name reservation. Please follow the guide's instructions. Thank you.
- Regarding procedures: Some scenic areas require a Frontier Pass. However, the requirements for obtaining a Frontier Pass within Tibet are subject to change. Therefore, it is best for Chinese citizens to obtain a Frontier Pass from their local Public Security Bureau before departure. Foreign visitors uniformly apply for one. Both Chinese and foreign tourists can sign up for our group tours. Taiwanese and foreign tourists need to apply for a Tibet Travel Permit in advance.
- Regarding pick-up and drop-off: If tourists need to arrive in Lhasa before our fixed departure date or leave Tibet after the end date, they need to pay an additional fee for individual pick-up and drop-off; if the flight booked by the tourist is not within the free pick-up and drop-off time, they need to pay an additional fee for individual pick-up and drop-off. This trip is a group tour, and guests with similar arrival/departure times will be arranged together for airport transfers, and guests may have to wait for up to about 2 hours. One day in advance, staff or sales personnel will confirm the pick-up time with tourists. If tourists are unwilling to wait, they can notify the travel agency one day in advance to arrange individual pick-up and drop-off at their own expense.
- [Potala Palace Ticket Booking Instructions]
- Potala Palace tickets are subject to a real-name reservation system. A valid ID (ID card, household registration booklet, or passport) is required for reservation. Once the reservation is successful, you will not be able to reserve tickets again within 7 days from the date of the visit. If tourists provide incorrect information resulting in their inability to enter the Potala Palace, the travel agency will not be held responsible for any consequences. Tourists must bring the original of their valid ID before the visit. If the name or ID number does not match the actual ID used, entry will be denied, and the ticket purchase fee, having already been incurred, cannot be refunded. Thank you for your understanding.
- Please understand that the Potala Palace's visiting time is assigned randomly by the Potala Palace Administration Office's computer ticketing system, and specific visiting times cannot be selected. The actual tour route order may also differ from the provided reference itinerary.
- During peak season, Potala Palace visits are restricted. Each travel agency in Tibet has a limited number of group reservations per day. To ensure visitors can enter smoothly, travel agencies will use various channels to resolve this. Due to the special ticketing requirements of different channels, please follow the guide's instructions. The following arrangements are normal: 1) Each group may be divided into several smaller groups (it may be necessary to split up groups or visitors who booked together, and there may be situations where you are combined with other unfamiliar group members to enter). 2) Each smaller group will visit at different times/dates. 3) Each smaller group will be accompanied by a different guide.
- [Jokhang Temple Ticket Booking Instructions]
- Tickets for Jokhang Temple require real-name reservation. Tickets for the next day are released daily from 7:00-23:59 on the WeChat mini-program "大昭寺预约" (Jokhang Temple Reservation), until the maximum number of visitors is reached. Therefore, ticket reservations must be made 1 day in advance. Please make your reservation under the guidance of your tour guide. Jokhang Temple is a religious temple and not solely a tourist attraction. We appreciate your understanding if it is closed to visitors due to important religious activities or other special circumstances.
- [Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple Visiting Tips]
- As the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple both require real-name reservations, please ensure that you bring your original valid ID and follow your guide's instructions to enter at the scheduled time. For ease of climbing stairs during your visit, we recommend wearing flat shoes. Please dress modestly and respectfully, avoiding shorts, short skirts, exposed chests or backs, and open-toed sandals. Please remove hats and sunglasses before entering the halls. Please refrain from loud talking, chasing, climbing, lying down, spitting, littering, or touching cultural relics inside the halls. Photography and videography, touching relics and murals are strictly prohibited inside the Jokhang Temple, the Potala Palace, and within all scenic spots in Shol City. Do not bring liquid beverages into the palace, and smoking or open flames are strictly prohibited.
- The Potala Palace is tall, so please walk slowly when going up and down. It is relatively cold inside the palace, so it is recommended to prepare a jacket even in summer. Because the main visiting time for the Potala Palace is limited to 1 hour, guides are not allowed to stay in the halls for a long time or speak loudly inside the Potala Palace, and can only explain outside. Please be civilized and abide by the regulations of the cultural relics protection unit. The Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple are ancient buildings with narrow passages and many wooden stairs. In addition, the same narrow staircase is used for both going up and down. Accepting too many tourists can easily cause safety hazards, so please leave as soon as possible after the visit. Please be sure to walk in order and pay attention to safety when visiting and going up and down the stairs, and do not crowd.
- [Warm Reminder for Traveling to Tibet]
- In addition to the Tibet Travel Permit, foreign tourists traveling in the same vehicle are required to apply for a Travel Permit in the Shigatse area. The tour guide will adjust the itinerary as appropriate depending on the circumstances. Please follow the tour guide's arrangements and actively cooperate. We kindly ask for your understanding in the event of system failures or excessive queuing times due to a surge in tourists during peak season, which may result in extended processing times for Travel Permits.
- Everest Accommodation: Everest Base Camp tents (8-15 people/tent, dormitory-style beds, shared restrooms, limited conditions): Generally clean and tidy, but a significant difference compared to city hotels, please understand; In winter, due to the cold weather, after the tents are removed from Everest Base Camp, accommodation will be changed to homestays in villages near Everest. Food and lodging are poor on the day, the altitude is high, and the temperature is low. Please pay attention to keeping warm and preventing altitude sickness. Summer nights are around 0-8 degrees Celsius, please bring warm clothing. You can also rent down jackets at Base Camp to keep warm.
- Tibet, a captivating tourist destination that integrates history, culture, ethnic customs, snowy landscapes, and Tibetan Buddhism, is increasingly favored by tourists from all over the world. However, the following precautions should be taken when traveling to Tibet:
- Tibet is a high-altitude region. Tourists and their guardians should fully understand the risks of traveling to the plateau. Tourists with medical conditions that contraindicate high-altitude travel (such as obvious lesions in the heart, lungs, brain, liver, or kidneys, as well as those with severe anemia, high blood pressure, or severe colds) are not permitted to join the tour. The travel agency has fulfilled its obligation to remind tourists of these risks, and any pre-existing conditions must not be concealed during registration. It is important to get good sleep and avoid staying up late for 2-3 days before entering Tibet to minimize discomfort upon arrival. Tourists with psychological concerns can take NORDICOM, Gaoyuan'an, or Rhodiola Rosea 6-7 days in advance (during the hot months of July and August, reduce or discontinue use if discomfort occurs). On the day of entering Tibet, continue taking Gaoyuan'an, Rhodiola Rosea, etc., which have no side effects. In severe cases, seek medical attention for intravenous drips and oxygen inhalation to quickly alleviate altitude sickness. Most tourists adapt within 1-1.5 days of arriving in Tibet. Altitude sickness is caused by oxygen deficiency, with common symptoms including headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and insomnia. The primary factor is psychological, so please relax and do not be afraid. On the day of entering Tibet, rest quietly in the hotel, and avoid bathing in the evening to prevent pulmonary edema caused by a cold or increased altitude sickness due to lack of oxygen. Tourists without adverse reactions should also avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and smoking to ensure the successful completion of the subsequent itinerary.
- Speak softly and walk slowly on the plateau. Drink more water and eat more fruit if you have no adverse reactions. Eat only about 70% full during meals to avoid increasing the burden on your stomach. Carry some high-calorie snacks with you (such as chocolate, beef jerky, biscuits, etc.) to replenish energy in time, as the plateau consumes physical strength. Tourists who are in sub-health or have underlying health conditions should carry some American ginseng with them, which can be kept in the mouth to ensure physical strength and resistance. There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in Tibet, reaching about 13 degrees Celsius, so you must bring thick coats or sweaters and other thicker clothing, especially in high-altitude areas (such as Tingri, Mount Everest), where the evening temperature in August drops to around 0-5 degrees Celsius, so be sure to keep warm. Down jackets, cotton long johns and other warm clothes are essential. Power will be cut off in remote areas after 24:00 at night. Tourists taking adventure routes need to bring their own flashlights and toilet paper. Because Tibet is vast, the transportation between regions is mostly local tourist buses. On some routes, the time spent on the bus will be longer than the time spent sightseeing, so please be mentally prepared before departure and avoid feeling irritable. Hopefully, the beautiful scenery along the way will make you forget your fatigue.
- Traveling in Tibet involves long journeys, can be strenuous, and has significant climate variations that tourists may find difficult to adjust to, potentially leading to altitude sickness. Tourists should bring relevant medications and some common remedies, such as bandages, cold medicine, or medication for stomach discomfort. Tibet's economic development lags behind that of mainland China, and local infrastructure is still developing. There are differences in hotels, vehicles, and restaurants, so tourists should be mentally prepared and understanding. Tibet uses Beijing time, just like the rest of the country, but there is a two-hour time difference with mainland China. Correspondingly, the daily schedule is two hours later than in mainland China, and tourists need to adjust accordingly, especially regarding waking up and meals. Please be aware of the "Tibetan time." Although Tibetan people are generally simple and honest, with rapid economic development, some discrepancies may arise. If taking photos, please agree on a price with them beforehand, and do not negotiate the price after taking the photos to avoid unnecessary conflicts.
- For your safety, please do not leave the group or alter the itinerary without permission. If you go out in the evening, please travel with companions and be sure to return to the hotel before 12:00 AM to avoid affecting the next day's itinerary. The sun is strong in Tibet and the climate is particularly dry, so sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, sun hats, etc. are essential. Tibet is mainly inhabited by Tibetan people, so please respect local customs. When visiting temples, turn clockwise. Photography, hats, and miniskirts are not allowed inside the temples. When talking with locals, do not discuss political issues and do not eat dog meat, monkey meat, horse meat, donkey meat, etc. When Tibetan people offer tea or wine, try to drink it. If you cannot drink, explain sincerely and ask for their forgiveness. Do not take the presented Hada to dirty places such as toilets. Keep it properly. Because the temples and scenic spots in Tibet are managed by the Management Committee and are not under the jurisdiction of the Tourism Bureau, early closing or late opening often occurs. Please understand if you encounter such problems.
